FLOATING CANVAS

I have been working on a new series of paintings. They are free form canvas with no frame required. It is a very old and somewhat outdated idea(in my opinion) that a painting needs a frame. The first few I have completed are two layers of canvas. They are cut in various shapes, sewn and then turned inside out and top stitched leaving a pocket at the top for a hanging rod. They are then given a layer of white acrylic paint. After drying I paint the reverse side also. Now the fun begins! I paintshapes and lines to create a background first I then emblish with lines drawn with paint in squirt bottles. These floating canvases can be hung in a doorway similiar to Japanese nori or on a wall indoors or outdoors. They can be flat against a wall or hung so they move in the wind.

Air Fryer Onion Rings

Air Fryer Onion Rings are simple to make and are lighter than the deep fried version. I use sweet onions like Walla Walla. Peel and slice oniion in one quarter inch rounds. Separate layers. Place flour in one bowl, egg beaten with a little water and powdered milk in second bowl and Italian bread crumbs mixed with finely grated parmesan cheese in the third bowl. Lay paper towels on a cutting board and place air fryer racks or basket on top. Spray shelves with olive oil. Dip onion slices individually into flour, then egg mixture and lastly in bread crumbs. Place on air fryer racks or basket and spray with olive oil. Bake at 400 degrees for 12 minutes until lightly browned. You can flip them and brown both sides but I did not find this necessary. Ingredients: Sweet Onion, Olive oil spray, flour, egg, Powdered Milk, Water, Italian Bread Crumbs, Parmesan Cheese

What's for Dinner?

Dinners lately have been lighter and simpler than in the past. Today I saw a New York Times Cookbook that has just been published. It is called No Recipe Recipes. This is a great idea and so I have decided to follow their lead. My last cookbook had specific measured ingredients for each recipe. That is not how I cook. I only look at specific ingredients if I am baking something for the first time and want it to be successful. I will include a list of ingredients and directions. You can make it as big or small depending on if you are feeding ten or two. You can also substitute ingredients for pantry items you prefer according to taste or what you have on hand.
